This second feature opens with a train arriving at a country station. The station, smoke and carriages look real enough and Jonathan Horswell identifies the scene as being shot at Carnforth station off Haws Hill in Carnforth, Lancashire adding that the woman with her back turned to the camera is non other than doe-eyed Celia Johnson herself! This, therefore, is an unused scene from 'Brief Encounter'!!! How cool is that?

Fleeing from an arranged marriage, Mary Corder arrives at the station and buys a single ticket to London. Compared with the starkness of the platform where the train arrived, this has the overly cosy appearance of a set. Yes, Peter Brown points out that this same set was used in 'Brief Encounter'. (RL)

Fired from their jobs in a fashion house, Gloria “Golly” Raine (Peggy Evans) and Brenda Lawrence (Elspet Gray) walk through London. Dave W tells us that they are in Grosvenor Street, London W1 at its junction with Davies Street east towards the distant tower of St George's Church. The gentle slope downwards is towards the former course of the River Tyburn which crossed at Avery Row. (RL)
Despite it being winter sunshine, Paul Lincoln to the first opportinuty to capture the same view, he even managed to frame a taxi. (RL)

The girls continue on their way. Looking towards Piccadilly Circus from Coventry Street in W1 with Regents Street heading off on the left and the London Pavilion to the right.
Paul Lincoln visited before the crowds made life more difficult and he avoided street furniture.(RL)

Presumably the Job Center is now somewhere nearby. (RL)

Whilst reading a sign asking for refined young ladies to work at Pepperfield’s Restaurant, Golly gets her heel caught in a grating.
