Marseille Contract, The

Frank Matthews (Robert Rondo) walks through a dark Parisian street . . . a car engine starts.

After following the Undercover Agent for a few metres, the car speeds up.

Matthews is crushed between the car and the railings at the end of the road.

Identifying Matthews at the morgue, Steve Ventura (Anthony Quinn), a senior officer of the US Drug Enforcement Administration, is followed from the building by Joe Kovakian (Patrick Floersheim).

After listening to the menu for a charity dinner, Lucienne Brizzard (Maureen Kerwin) tells her Father that it would take a hand grenade to get some of the guests to open their purses. The garden of Villa Medy-Rock on Boulevard J. F. Kennedy at Cap d'Antibes in Alps-Maritimes.

Later that day, Ventura returns to the office that he hates where his secretary Sally reads out the telephone calls he has received. The US Embassy at number 2 Avenue Gabriel in Paris 8eme.

The worse for drink, Ventura makes his way from the house where his boss Fred Williams is playing poker.

A Citroën DS 20 comes to a stand alongside Ventura before two Men approach and persuade him to get in.

In the back of the car, Ventura sits in silence next to Jerry Wilson (Pierre Koulak). Manuel Gurtner identifies this as coming from Rue du Bac, the car turns into what was then Quai Anatole-France, now Quai Valéry Giscard D'Estaing, and drives towards Gare d'Orsay, while the still existing La Frégate restaurant can be recognized through the rear window. Jean-Claude Fortuit (Jean-Louis Fortuit) and Wilson set off in pursuit when Ventura makes a run for it after the car comes to a halt in traffic. This must be, say Manuel, on Quai Voltaire, between Pont du Carousel and Pont Royal, as we can see at the opposite Seine enbankment the two turrets of the Pavillon de La Trémoille, the southern gateway to the Place du Carousel onto the Louvre site. Ventura makes his way into a railway station. Gare D'Orsay in the 7th arrondissement of Paris.

Ventura makes his way to the platforms and boards a train that's about to leave. Beyond the doors is the ramp that takes passengers to Rue de Lille near the corner of Rue de Bellechasse.

Making his way further up inside the station after finding a locked gate, Ventura watches his pursuers from above. Looking down onto the platforms at Gare d'Orsay on Rue de la Légion d'Honneur in the 7th arrondissement. The station closed to main line traffic in 1939 with suburban trains continuing to run until the 1970s.

Fortuit searches the level above the platforms. The train shed at Gare d'Orsay. The terminus was repurposed and reopened in 1986 as Musée d'Orsay and can also be seen in 1962's 'The Trial' as well as 'The Conformist' from 1970.

After Lazar is informed of a large shipment of morphine arriving on the 18th, Calmet gets back into the Alfa Romeo

In his Plymouth Fury, Ventura pulls up behind a taxi standing outside the apartment block where Mrs. Matthews lives with her son Kevin. Looking north on Avenue de Breteuil in the 7th arrondissement with the dome of Hôtel des Invalides in the distance, identified by Simon Place.

Rita Matthews (Alexandra Stewart) appears from the building and gets into the taxi with Kevin before saying goodbye to Ventura, the man she has been having an affair with. Simon Place found that this is facing the doorway to number 60bis Avenue de Breteuil.

Hired by Ventura for $50,000 to kill Jacques Brizzard, assassin John Deray drives to Marseille. The city of Marseille seen from the vicinity of Col de la Gineste in Bouches-du-Rhône.

Deray reaches the harbour. Quai du Port in Marseille alongside Vieux-Porte de Marseille.

Back in Paris . . . Boulevard de la Chapelle at Rue de Tombouctou on the border between the 10th and 18th arrondissements with the bridges carrying Line 2 of the Metro.

The shot pans left with a passing train as it travels above Boulevard de la Chapelle to La Chapelle station located beyond the railway running north from Gare du Nord.

Ventura makes his way towards a pissoir. Under the bridge carrying ligne 2 along Boulevard de la Chapelle.

When he reaches the urinal, Kovakian greets Ventura before telling him that he might be able to nail Brizzard. Facing buildings on Boulevard de la Chapelle in the 10th arrondissement.

Followed by Deray, Brizzard's daughter Lucienne returns to Marseille after the pair show off their driving skills on mountain roads.

Learning from Minierini that a ship was due in Marseille on the 18th carrying 400 kilos of morphine from Turkey, Ventura tells Briac that he's had no word from Deray and wants to cancel the contract. Looking along the River Seine from Passerelle Debilly with Pont de l'Alma in the background.

Ventura asks Briac to have Deray arrested. The camera zooms out to reveal Passerelle Debilly running between Quai de New York and Quai Branly along with the Eiffel Tower.

Inside the building he discovers from Marsac that the local police already know about the consignment of drugs and that they have Brizzard under 24 hour surveillance. Marseille Cathedral on Place de la Major.

That evening Deray is flown to meet Rouget before the pair go to a rendezvous where they signal to the Driver of a Citroën.

Deray and Rouget (Jean Bouchaud) leave their hideout to meet the car.

A gun fight ensues during which the police Citroën is set alight.

Deray escapes from the scene in a Fiat van and drives through the night back towards Marseille.

The shot pans with the van as a police Peugeot 404 starts to follow.

Crossing the terre-plein central, Deray drives the van into the opposite lane and makes his escape.

Dumping the van, Deray continues his journey by train. Sharp eyed Manuel Gurtner spots, obviously, that this is not the train back to Marseille, because we see 1960s stock footage from Switzerland, as the catenary type proves too. The inland express train by Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) bound for Lausanne, Canton au Vaud, provides 1st class and 2nd class lightweight type coaches of SBB standard design EW I. Filmed outside the market town of Villeneuve, Canton of Vaud, located at the eastern end of Lake Geneva.

In Marseille, Rossovitch and Henri (Georges Lycan) check passengers arriving by train. Marseille Saint-Charles station on Square Narvik, Marseille 1er. Manuel comments that not only the platform display for the arrival of Rapide 5112 from Lyon shown before seems to be fictitious. Neither in the CHAIX timetable of the French State Railways (SNCF) from 1972 nor in the CHAIX edition from 1975 can such a train connection be found. So he is pretty sure, that we see a movie train pulling into the terminus station, with Co'Co' type DC electric loco of SNCF Class CC-6500 ahead, while next to it Bo'Bo' type DC electric loco of SNCF Class BB-9200 is visible. The ambulance passes Brizzard's Phantom V as it arrives outside the Yacht Club. Once the haunt of a wealthy clientele, the Club House at Porto Canto was demolished in the 2010s and is now the site of a car park.

Marsac (André Oumansky) tells Ventura that two men involved in a drug related shooting a few nights ago worked for Brizzard and that a third man was recognised as Deray. Quai du Port in the Old Port, Marseille with the Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde in the distance.

After a failed attempt on Deray's life by Rossovitch, the Hit-Man meets Ventura and the two head for the Buenos Aires Bar where Brizzard is expected to be.

Ventura and Deray look through the windows of the bar and see Fortuit inside.

Fortuit leaves the bar and lights a cigarette before being killed by Ventura.

Ventura and Deray make their way to a derelict building where they find Brizzard's Rolls Royce and a shipment of drugs being loaded into a helicopter.

Briac and his Helicopter Pilot (Dominique Gilles) hold Brizzard and Calmet at gunpoint.

When Brizzard's Henchmen start firing, Ventura and Deray break cover.

Leaving Deray's body behind, Ventura walks from the ruins.
