Based on the true story of the Via Rasella ambush in which Italian partisans, buoyed by the American advance on Rome in 1944, killed 32 German police and the subsequent reprisal where ten times the number from the citizens of Rome were executed in the Adreatine caves. SJ

German troops take their daily march up the Via Rasella. IN fact this is the east end of Via San Gaspare del Bufalo close to Lago Albano in Albano Laziale, well to the south-east of Rome.
