Murder at 3am

Mrs James, a “society woman”, returns from a nightclub and is attacked and murdered. The films Radnor Street, W1 but looks rather provincial residential.

When she is found on her doorstep Insp. Peter Lawton (Dennis Price) and Sgt. Bill Todd (Rex Garner) visit the scene.

A fifth girl is attacked, supposedly at 48 Wimpole Street, London. Awoken to the attack Peter speeds in a patrol car to the scene of an abandoned car connected with the attacker. Hammersmith Bridge Road, London W6

Clearly the film crew were not hampered by a bus shelter!

He asks the whereabouts of Sgt. Todd who saw and heard nothing on his arrival at the scene. Outside Digby Mansions. Hammersmith Bridge in the background.

The driver must have made an hasty escape via the river. The River Thames with Upper Mall, London W6 background.

Life continues much as before.

One tree appears to have survived.

Peter looks to his right, it cuts really, to provide more detail of the location. Upper Mall, London W6 with Sussex House right of centre and the The Dove pub almost far left. A little further upstream on Upper Mall, scenes for 'The Love Ban' as well as 'The Third Secret' were shot and the area is also seen in 'The Water Gipsies'.

Reassuringly conserved.

After learning from Old Skip (Leonard Sharp) that high tide coincides with all the attacks they return to their car and Bill draws Peter’s attention to a man crossing the road. This is Hammersmith Bridge Road.

The tree between Bill and Peter appears to be the exact same one.

Peter calls out “Teddy” as he believes it is his sister fiancé, but is ignored. The corner of Rutland Grove and Bridge View, London W6 that isn't directly visible from the previous capture.

Some significant changes have taken place on the corner.

Peter’s sister Joan (Peggy Evans), persuades the police to be the decoy for the prospective next attack as evidence suggests that the attacker could be her fiancé Edward King (Philip Saville). She is taken home from the nightclub by the attacker in a stolen taxi. Supposedly 19 Sussex Place, Regents Park. With the sound of police bells the attacker drives off, looks like the same road as seen in capture 1.

Shaken, she stumbles to the lamp post to await the police.

The police, with the assistance of “Old Skip” tour the River looking for locations that have their own boathouses. “There’s the old house that Charles Crichton lived in”.

Teddy’s 'twin' brother Jim is found to be the attacker who falls to his death in the River and the camera pans up to the opposite bank. Rivercourt Methodist Church, Hammersmith spire visible right hand side.
