Mystery in the Mine (Children’s Film Foundation)

Mr. Trelawney drives his nephew Tom Lee though the Cornish countryside.

Panning left, the camera finds Jane Trelawney (Ingrid Cardon) and her dog Bob watching as the car passes a sprawling china clay quarry.

As Jane runs down from the hill, Mr. Trelawney approaches the house where he lives with Granny, his Wife and daughter.

Mr. Trelawney parks the Austin A30 Countryman on the road outside the house.

Mrs. Trelawney greets Tom Lee (Stewart Guidotti) while Mr. Trelawney carries his cases.

On the way to show her cousin the china clay pit where her Dad is the manager, Jane leads Tom past a dangerous old mine.

After stopping to look at the ruined buildings, the two carry on to the clay pit.

Jane takes Tom to the laboratory where geologist Mr. Abbot is working.

When Bob runs away and falls into a mineshaft, Tom slips whilst trying to reach him.

Alerted by Jane, Mr. Abbott (Peter Copley) hurries back to the mine with rope to rescue Tom and Bob

After Tom is freed, Abbot's assistant Ray Pentreath (David Rose) appears carrying more rope and his radiation detector.

A short while later Mr. Abbot climbs from the mine with Bob in his arms.

Waving goodbye to Mr. and Mrs. Trelawney as they head into Plymouth, Tom spots an "Artist" near the buildings where Jane's dad has just put up a "danger" sign.

After the Children tell Mr. Abbot about the "artist", he returns to the mine and calls to Collins (Howard Greene) who is below ground searching for radioactive K-13.

Throwing his easel and canvas down the mineshaft, Collins locks the door of the shed where Tom and Jane have been hiding.

Escaping after Collins and Abbot trap them in the mine, Jane and Tom head for the sea. Looking towards Portloe Cove from Portloe in Cornwall.

Given the weather, Lionel and Cynthia Sear were not surprised that there was nobody in the water. (RL)

When the "Artist" rides away on his scooter, the Children run to tell Ray after following Collins to the clay pit.

Tom, Jane and Ray return to the mine when they discover solvents and other items missing from the laboratory.

After falling through the the floor of a clifftop shed sabotaged by Collins, Ray and Tom wash themselves in the sea. Portloe Cove.

'Time and tide wait for no man' it is said, but in this instance Lionel and Cynthia couldn't wait. (RL)

Jane asks Ray if he'd like something to eat before producing a Cornish pasty from a bag. The view north from Portloe Harbour on the Roseland Peninsula.

Lionel Sear admits that he would do almost anything for ReelStreets, and has, but on this occasion he wasn't prepared to get his feet wet. (RL)

Crouching behind a small boat, Jane and Ray spot Collins turn up on his scooter with Abbot riding pillion. An almost identical view of Portloe can be seen in 'Crooks in Cloisters' while other shots of the village can be seen in 'About Time' and 'Haunters of the Deep'.

After the Children overhear the crooks talking as they measure out K-13 inside Abbot's cottage, the two leave to return for more. Outside the Lugger Hotel in Portloe.

Lionel and Cynthia Sear made a return journey to Portloe to complete 'unfinished business', only to find that their frustrations of the day continued further when they found the required camera position built up several feet rendering it inaccessible. They, and we, have to accept a ground level shot. (RL)

The clay pit Foreman telephones Mr. Abbot at the laboratory and asks him to come over.

Knocking Ray out, Collins chases Tom, Jane and Bob through the clay pit's railway sidings.

The Children scramble down an incline at the workings.

With Collins closing on them, Tom and Jane climb into a crane's ore bucket before Ray arrives with Bob.

Ray and Bob join Tom and Jane before chasing after Collins when they see him running away from the rock.

Coming to a garage, Collins steals an unattended scooter.

Seeing Collins get away, Ray, Jane, Tom and Bob walk slowly from the garage.

On the road, Ray and the Children flag down an Artist (Marjie Lawrence) as she drives past.

Urged to go faster by Tom and Jane, the Artist's Jeep follows the route taken by Collins.

When Tom and Jane tell Sergeant Mallon that Abbot is a dangerous criminal, the officer challenges him. The Green with numbers 3 to 1 Sydney Cottages to the right.

Across the road, Collins pauses outside a tea shop as Ray tells the Sergeant that Abbot is trying to smuggle refined K - 13 out of the country. Number 10 High Street in Claygate.

The shot pans with Abbot as he carries the paper bag concealing a spherical container of K - 13 towards the tea shop that Collins has entered. The junction of High Street and The Green in Claygate, Surrey.

Moving left, Jamie Sturgeon found a mini roundabout at the junction.

Participants at a bowling match taking place at Pendean Police Sports Club stop paying as Bob runs onto the green with the container of K - 13.

The Players are puzzled when they look down to see two jacks.

Following Ray, Jane, Tom and Bob, Collins enters the sports club followed by Abbot.

After Club Members ask Ray, the Children and their dog to leave the green, they realise that something must be done to rescue the K - 13.

Telling Bob to fetch the sphere from the green, a swap is made before Collins runs away with the jack and Abbot makes off with the K - 13.

Having made a plan to retrieve the container of K - 13 before its handed over to a man named Grimblatt, early the next morning Jane, Tom and Bob leave Granny's house.

Running from his house after waking late, Ray hops along the road as he puts his shoes on.

Giving a lift to Ray, Jane, Tom and Bob in the back of his van, a Milkman (Robert Dorning) make his last delivery in the village before driving to Treharrow. The junction of Back Lane and The Street in East Clandon, Surrey identified by Jamie Sturgeon who adds that the Queen's Head public house is out of frame to the right.

Collins approaches the milk van and spots the Children helping to unload a churn. Jamie Sturgeon explains that this is looking north-eastwards on The Street in East Clandon with the Village Hall to the right and Bay Tree Cottage at the corner of Ripley Road in the left distance.

Pulling his scooter onto its stand, Collins creeps towards the Milkman's van. Jamie Sturgeon discovered the view facing north-eastwards on The Street in East Clandon, Surrey

With the Passengers having a bumpy ride in the back, Collins jumps from the drivers seat as the van nears a sharp bend. Looking along The Street towards the Queen's Head with Back Lane to the left, spotted by Jamie Sturgeon.

Catching up with his van, the Milkman drives his Passengers into Treharrow where a festival is taking place. Facing Eden Street from the the Apple Market in Kingston upon Thames, Surrey. The location also appears in 'The Yellow Teddy Bears'.

As an 'Obby 'Oss dances through the narrow streets nearby, Ray and the Children thank the Milkman for helping them. Looking north into Crown Passage from the Apple Market in Kingston upon Thames.

Looking around the crowded street, Ray tells the Kids that finding Collins will be like looking for a needle in a haystack. Outside Bernard's at number 6 Apple Market, Kingston upon Thames.

Peter Bywaters provides this shot taken outside the Terrace Eatery which has been run by the same family for over 41 years since they acquired the premises from Bernard's formerly a butcher's shop.

Bob follows Ray, Tom and Jane as they hurry to the police station.

Inside the police station, the Sergeant explains that his Men are out looking for Collins but it will be a difficult task because of the festival crowds.

Onlookers watch as the 'Obby 'Oss twists and turns in the sunshine. Facing Lanadwell Street from the corner of Market Place and Broad Street in Padstow, Cornwall.

Returning to the town with Ray Jane and Bob, Tom spots Collins walking towards them. Looking north along Crown Passage in Kingston upon Thames.

Peter Bywaters came across a view with less character.

Collins stops in his tracks. To the left stands the entrance to the Crown Arcade identified by Peter Bywaters who adds that the arcade runs from Crown Passage to Union Street.

In a yard, Collins puts on an 'Obby 'Oss costume.

Abbot makes his way to meet with Collins. Apple Market in Kingston upon Thames with Mence Smith at numbers 11 to 13, found by Peter Bywaters.

Peter found Spiderman pointing down Harrow passage which forms a "tee junction" with Crown Passage and Apple Market. 

The 'Obby 'Oss bars Abbot's way before Collins reveals that it's him. Crown Passage, where the properties to the left have been demolished and replaced.

Policemen restrain Grimblatt and Abbot as the others chase Collins when he runs across the lock gates. Facing what is now Charlestown Harbour Shop from the lock between the Outer and Inner Basins.
