Mystery Junction
Date: 1951
Director: Michael McCarthy
Production Company: Merton Park Studios
Stars: Sidney Tafler, Barbara Murray, Martin Benson, Patricia Owens
Location(s): Possibly South East
Region(s): South East M-Q
Storyline:
Larry Gordon, well-known crime writer, is on a train journey when a scream is heard. Upon investigation, the guard had been mugged and a man murdered and the passengers are held at a station by a gangster. Another man is arrested but the full story is yet to be discovered.
Additional Information:
Nick Stanbury says, that although he cannot identify the station location shown in the still, it appears to be on the former Southern Railway (and probably an ex-London & South Western Railway station). Although the principal scenes at the Junction were clearly filmed in a rather stagey studio set, those in the guard’s and luggage compartment of the train had a very realistic appearance (with the handbrake column etc prominent) and might have been filmed in a real coach. The guard and stationmaster have Southern Railway cap badges.
Can you help:
If you have any information regarding this production, the locations or, even better, some comparison shots please contact us. Images submitted must be in Landscape orientation, as would be seen on the cinema screen, not Portrait.
We are aware that there are films on the site that were added when the criteria for the inclusion of locations was very different from today and, as a result, there may be scenes missing from some productions. Please do not forward additional screen captures to us but bring the detail to our attention, for we do, and are, 're-addressing' these older entries as time allows.
- Capture 1
- 'Now' required
Besides very dark, what could well be stock, footage of a train pulled by what looks like a Bulleid Merchant Navy Class engine, the whole of the film takes place on a set. The only location associated with the film is this B&W still photograph. See also Header Section.
