Soon after Margaret Elizabeth Hallam is sentenced to be hanged for killing her husband, Simon Gale (Dennis Price) makes his way to fictional Wickham Green. This is facing Tilt Common in Cobham, Surrey with Stoke Road running to the left and Tilt Road on the extreme right.

Stoke Road and Tilt Road are still recognisable as Peter Bywaters' shot shows.

On leave from work as a District Commissioner in Uganda and knowing nothing of the trial, Simon continues on his way to surprise his cousin Margaret. The junction of Stoke Road and Tilt Road.

Sounding the MG TD's horn, Simon turns off the main road. Stoke Road in Cobham with a fine example of a K1 telephone box next to the bus shelter.

Driving along a tree lined byway, Simon reaches Easton Knoll.

Turning into the driveway, Simon arrives at the house where the door is opened by Margaret's step-daughter Jill.

After being told about the murder and Margaret's trial, a stock shot serves for Simon's journey back to London where he starts his own investigations. The shot shows a train entering the Hadley Wood tunnel in North London which was single bore until 1959. (SR)
