Film producer Ludivigo Fogliati and his director Benjamino Pirelli collect a Man who they think is opera singer Giulio Moris at the station. Clive Turner discovered that The Cutters Guide "Picture Show Annual 1949" informs that the railway station shots were filmed in Milan and Manuel Gurtner identifies Milano Centrale, the monumental railway terminus that opened 1931 on Piazza Duca d'Aosta in Milan, Lombardy. The car is located in the middle of the outer concourse, for taxi traffic, at the entrance to the inner concourse with the ticket counters.

The camera pans with the Chauffeur driven limousine as it heads for the film studio where the mistake is discovered. The Concourse, now a pedestrian area, on the north-west side of Milano Centrale, looking towards Piazza IV Novembre located by Manuel Gurtner.

Turning up at the studio, the real Giulio tells his story which begins at the film's Camporina station, where the train to Rome leaves without Miss Santel after she alights with her dog Floppy to meet Piero Santellini. The carriage bears the markings on the Swiss Federal Railways and Manuel Gurtner explains that the through SBB coach from Milan to Switzerland is standing on track 2, the island platform, at Stresa station in the province of Novara, Piedmont. The station is located on the Milano to Domodossola main line.

Giulio Moris (Nino Martini) crosses paths with Mary Santel (Patricia Roc) as she runs after the departing train. At Stresa station on Via Principe di Piemonte, Manuel Gurtner noticed that they are going in the wrong direction as the Italian State Railways has left-hand running, as in the UK, so here trains to the south use tracks 1 and 3.

While talking with Mary, the Milan Express pulls out of the station with Giulio's jacket and belongings still on board. Manuel tells us that here we are looking in the Milan direction on the island platform adjacent to track 3. Stresa station, standing in for fictional Camporina station, has a total of four through tracks.

The two stranded travellers find out that they are both without money and that there are no more trains that evening. The station at Stresa where Manuel advises that the goods shed in the background still stands.

When the Porter explains that the waiting room is locked, Mary and Giulio take a seat on the platform.

As they leave the station, the Porter tells the pair that there's a hotel in the next town.

Mary and Giulio walk from the station. In Manuel's opinion, this shot was edited in reverse to conceal the fact that filming took place at Arona in the Novara province of Piedmont. So the silhouette of the Rocca di Angera castle can be recognized on the opposite side of Lake Maggiore, perched onto the hill above Angera village.

Reaching the town, Mary and Giulio find it impossible to get rooms at the Hotel Bellavista as they have no luggage, papers or money.

Arriving in Rome, Piero Santellini borrows Matty's new car and drives back to Camporina with him and Mary's Father. Manuel Gurtner found Arona station in Piedmont, located also at the Milano to Domodossola main line.

After Giulio teaches Mary to beg without success, she sings for the first time since a school concert . . . again with no success. Filmed at Bergamo, Lombardy, Manuel Gurtner identifies Piazza Vecchia, looking towards Palazzo della Ragione, built between 1183 and 1198.

People appear at windows, in the street and on balconies as Giulio sings. Piazza Vecchia with the Fontana Contarini from 1780 in the foreground located by Manuel.

Mary gathers the money thrown into the piazza, enough for the two to eat a dinner of tagliatelle al burro, cotolette alla Milanese, zabaglioni and vino secco blanco. Manuel Gurtner explains that this is facing the vaults below the Palazzo della Ragione, where in the background the entrance to the Capella Colleoni, the tomb of Bartolomeo Colleoni, can be recognised. The construction by architect Giovanni Antonio Amadeo began in 1472 and was completed in 1476.

Piero arrives at Camporina station with Mary's Father and Matty. This is Via Principe di Piemonte outside Stresa station in Piedmont located by Manuel Gurtner.

Following a spell in the town jail for passing a forged 500 lira note, Mary and Giulio are freed when the Jailer gives the key to the tenor after he sings.
