Reunion at Fairborough

Mitchum is successful and lives in a swanky apartment in Chicago. L'Elysium? 10445, West? ... The Grand condominium, 10445 Wilshire Blvd APT 401, Los Angeles, CA 90024, so not Chicago at all. A triumphant discovery by our Italian sleuth Daniela Bianchi who also provided photographic evidence to confirm. Brava (SJ)

An encounter with a young girl in a park leads him to reflections on the daughter he thought he never had. And after a few years, Daniela's persistence has paid dividends. Her convincing internet research points to Mayfield Convent Gardens looking north-east towards high rises off Danebury Avenue, SW15. (SJ)

After the brief scenes in Chicago, the action switches to England where locals welcome back the US veterans . . . .

And we are in Shere, one of Surrey's most picturesque villages, though it is being loved to death.

Flying buddies Mitchum and Buttons visit the church.

This is more to exclude the thought that the interior matches. This is Shere's porch and I don't think they're the same. See cap 21 for another possiblity. SJ

Mitchum leaves the church

The exterior is indeed St James's Church, Shere however, with not a prop gravestone in sight.

He searches for some wartime memories. Suddenly he's moved from Shere to Chobham High Street, close to the roundabout with Vicarage Road.

Di Davies ventured out to take this 'shot' for us and found the cottage now obscured by a hideous rusty road sign, but the cannon can be clearly seen. (RL)

He continues round the High Street just north of The White Hart pub.

I found a charity clothing shop here now, accompanied by a lamppost complete with poppy. (SR)

He passes by The Forge, still going as the Chobham Forge on Burrow Hill Green, well to the north of the previous shot.

And now he works his way into the countryside.

He finds the cottage where his wartime sweat-heart Kerr used to, and still does, live. Here he meets Trott who turns out to be his grand-daughter. Woodcock Lane in Chobham, Surrey found by Daniela Bianchi, a fan in Milan. The cottage can also be seen in 'The Jigsaw Man' and 'Orders to Kill'. (SJ)

Trott drives Mitchum to meet Kerr who's working in town. Maybe Weybridge, but no, it's Anyards Road, Cobham . . .

She ushers him inside to meet his old flame Kerr. This is panning left from the above capture so still Anyards Road.

The Old Crown, Thames Street in the north of Weybridge. Mitchum had popped his head in here during his walkabout to Kerr while Buttons goes on a bender here and is ejected.

Nick Boorman struggled to get a decent view due to parked people carrier.

After his ejection the alcoholic Buttons staggers away.

Stalwart of the cinema and theatre, Richard Pearson delivers the address. Another shot to question the interior of the church which does not seem to be St. James's...Indeed not, Daniela Bianchi has found St Mary Magdalene, Littleton, Shepperton, using the internet in Milan. Mille grazie.

Trott takes Mitchum to an US base to explain her CND leanings... Daniela found, in the background, White Lane Farm, Guildford Lane between Albury and Guildford. They'll be looking at trees rather than a base.

Trott returns to her and her grandmother's house, as seen previously., now identified... Further investigation, with thanks to Daniela, has found that the porch was a prop, and the long term resident was a resilient lady named Elsie Spong who lived there alone until she was 93.
