The friends enter the ground. The entrance to Stompond Lane Sports Ground, Walton-on-Thames. Greg Paulett confirms the location and advises that it is yet another sports ground that had now (2020) given way to new housing. (RL)

Nick Boorman's son used to be a member of Walton Athletic Club so he knows the location well. A former member of the club was Alan Turing.

The Sportsmaster (Jack May) signs up Sammy for the race before Sidney Young (David Young) and Chalky (Keith Jayne) snatch the lucky t-shirt. Stompond Lane Sports Ground is home to Walton Athletic Club, Walton Tennis Club and Walton & Hersham Football Club.

A new estate has replaced the sports facility that Nick Boorman had attended many times and he was going by memory as to the exact location of the stadium stand in relation to the main road.
