Trudging through the snow, K (Maximilian Schell) approaches an inn as the daylight fails.

Begrudgingly given shelter by the Innkeeper after the First Assistant Overseer makes checks with the Castle's Central Bureau, K wakes the next morning. Identified on IMDb, this is Bertholdstein Castle, located in the village of Pertlstein in the district of Südoststeiermark of the Austrian state of Styria.

Having been introduced to his assistants Arthur and Jeremiah after returning to the inn, the next day K walks outside to see the pair on a sledge carrying a message from the Castle.
