If you have any information regarding this production, the locations or, even better, some comparison shots please contact us. Images submitted must be in Landscape orientation, as would be seen on the cinema screen, not Portrait.

We are aware that there are films on the site that were added when the criteria for the inclusion of locations was very different from today and, as a result, there may be scenes missing from some productions. Please do not forward additional screen captures to us but bring the detail to our attention, for we do, and are, 're-addressing' these older entries as time allows.

A view of the clock above the Coach & Horses public house at the end of Sidney Street opens the film. This is The Berkeley public house on Mountjoy Street, Dublin 7.

Mark O'Neill popped into The Berkeley for a swift pint and took this shot showing a reversal of colours. (RL)

The camera moves down and across the brickwork of the building in Dublin's East End of London. Maureen Broughton was a pupil at Mountjoy Street school when the film was being made and recalls that her parents were extras in the production. Maureen tells us that Donald Sinden was her Mum's pin up and that "Lessons ground to a halt during the gunfire scenes which were very exciting for for us children. Returning to the location years later, the area had changed completely and the school was derelict."

And so Mark similarly moved his camera and appears to have revealed a street name change. (RL)

Silence pervades the scene as a police officer starts to walk along the street.

Silence still pervades it would seem except for the "click" of Mark's camera. (RL)

The officer is shot by an unseen sniper. Looking along Wellington Street Lower from Mountjoy Street in Phibsborough.

Mark captures a less tense scene. (RL)

A gun battle commences. This appears to be the corner of Graham's Row and Wellington Street Lower.

Mark confirms that it is indeed, but rather different now. (RL)

Inside the building, members of a Latvian radical group hold out against the armed police.

Nowhere to hide now reveals Mark. (RL)

Nobody preventing Mark from having a pint. (RL)

Two weeks earlier, Peter Pjatkov (Peter Wyngarde) walks Sara (Nicole Berger) home from Jubilee Street Social Club. The west side of Halston Street in Dublin 7.

Mark finds some pleasing conservation. (RL)

The two approach the young woman's lodgings. A little further north on Halston Street.

To Mark's relief the lodging remain in place. (RL)

  • 'Now' required

The next day, the Latvian radical group carry out their planned robbery of a factory payroll.

  • 'Now' required

Dmitrieff drives a stolen getaway car into a street near the factory.

  • 'Now' required

Hans and Lapidos wait for the carriage carrying the money to the factory.

Gardstein watches as two factory employees leave the London & District Bank and climb into their carriage. Pat Cleary identifies this as facing number 52 Baggot Street Upper, Dublin 4 where it merges into Pembroke Road at the junction with Eastmoreland Place.

Pat provides this view of the location now explaining that the bank's name was fictional and that the real premises were extensively modernised and expanded towards the corner but have now become another sad-looking victim of the multiple closures of branches.

  • 'Now' required

After parking the car, Dmitrieff (Tutte Lemkow) glances along the street as Gardstein appears.

Karl Gardstein (Maurice Good) signals that the carriage set off on the short journey to the rubber works.

The Latvians look for the missing getaway car after throwing the bag to Toska.

  • 'Now' required

Passers by scatter as more shots are fired.

More people join the police as they chase after the thieves. Hugh McBryan recognised the road as Park Drive in Milltown, Dublin 6.

Pat Cleary learnt from a local that these uniquely designed houses were show houses constructed on then open land for the Irish International Exhibition of 1907, the purpose of which was to highlight the Irish industrial endeavour.

  • 'Now' required

Hans and Lapidos come to a fence which they scale to escape into fields. Facing north on Park Drive identified by Hugh McBryan who adds that the 'fields' are now built up as the Merton Hall development.

Backed up by more officers, the police reach the fence and climb over to continue their pursuit. Hugh McBryan explains that the railings form the boundary of the ESB Milltown 110kV electricity sub-station at the end of Park Drive in Dublin 6.

No more open spaces at the bottom of the road as Pat Cleary's comparison shows.

Inspector Withers greets Superintendent Blakey (Godfrey Quigley) and Inspector Mannering (Donald Sinden) as their car draws up. Park Drive in Milltown, Dublin 6 located by Hugh McBryan.

Pat Cleary found a nice looking wall with extra security fencing added adding that the shed in the left background of the capture is no longer there.

  • 'Now' required

After she starts a relationship with Peter, Sara returns to her lodgings where her lover waits. The west side of Halston Street with St. Michan's Church to the left of centre.

  • 'Now' required

Working undercover and in disguise, Mannering leaves his lodgings, watched by Gardstein.

Nina (Angela Newman) leaves for Gardstein's lodgings after he's shot during a jewel robbery. Pat Cleary found Viking Place in Dublin 7 with number 62 Sitric Road to the right, which is close to the similar shop at number 58 that appears in 'The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne' and 'The Tale of Sweety Barrett'.

  • 'Now' required

An undercover policeman watches before following her. The corner of Sitric Road and Viking Place in Stoneybatter identified by Pat Cleary.

Svaars (Leonard Sachs) plays a barrel organ outside the Police Station where Nina and Sara have been taken. Halston Street in Dublin 7 with Green Street Courthouse in the background.

Mark O'Neill captures the scene without street entertainment. (RL)

The shot pans left across Halston Street.

Mark advises that the property to the left is the old Green Street "Debtors" prison which backs on to Halston Street. (RL)

The camera finds Mannering who's waiting for Sara to be released. Facing King Street North from Halston Street.

Here the old Green Street "Debtors" prison is to the right. (RL)

  • 'Now' required

Mannering is watched as he returns to his lodgings, bringing Christmas presents to Sara.

The film is brought up to date. The Berkeley public house at the corner of Wellington Street Lower and Mountjoy Street.
