If you have any information regarding this production, the locations or, even better, some comparison shots please contact us. Images submitted must be in Landscape orientation, as would be seen on the cinema screen, not Portrait.

We are aware that there are films on the site that were added when the criteria for the inclusion of locations was very different from today and, as a result, there may be scenes missing from some productions. The gangs successful £20,000 raid in the City hits the newspapers. Meard Street looking towards Dean Street, London W1.

The background building has been redeveloped.

It was the job of “Alibi Lewis” (Reed De Rouen), narrating, to see that the police never “had anything on them”. Meard Street also features in in 'King of the Underworld', 'Saturday Night Out', 'Man at the Carlton Tower', 'Danger by My Side', 'Two Left Feet', 'The Moon Over the Alley', 'All You Need Is Cash', 'Don't Open till Christmas' and 'The Teckman Mystery'.

You can still get a fine cut there but of a slightly different type.

The sixth member of the gang was “a blind guy" known as “The Mole”. Cecil Court, London

I was relieved to see that the same "security gate" was there otherwise the shot could have been anywhere.

The gang plan another “bigger” job. Johnny (Christopher Page), the lookout, sees a policeman and begins to panic. A member of the gang shoots him to “keep him quiet”. Ramillies Place, London W1

Yes, and I began to panic when I saw that work was in hand.

The policeman hears the shot, blows his whistle. Ramillies Place, London W1

It is somewhere within the photo.

He crosses (a cut, he is actually on the same side) to enter the premises. Ramillies Place, London W1

Fortunately some of the original building is still identifiable.

While the officer investigates the premises, back-up quickly follows in the squad car. Ramillies Place with the car entering from Ramillies Street, London W1

Now.

Hunter (Michael Evans), assistant to Supt. Holroyd (Harold Warrender) goes to verify the alibi of “Keyhole” Russell. Unknown location.

The next job is planned, to steal diamonds arriving on a train into Platform 8 at Victoria Station. Light Pacific class 34101 “Hartland” is still running on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. The platform appears in 'Two on the Tiles'.

Relieved of all police duties, other than to arrest the gang members, Supt. Holroyd meets the diamond courier.

On arrival at the offices of Barford’s (Diamond Merchants) Supt. Holroyd and the courier get out of the car. Golden Square, London W1

At least one car was in the correct location.

They are followed by gang member Lewis and an informant. Golden Square, London W1

Priority to motorcycles now.

Meanwhile two other members are waiting on a bench in the gardens.

All heavily redeveloped except for the statue of George ll.

“Keyhole” Russell (Edward Malin) and Jimmy Wainwright (Ivan Craig).

The diamonds are deposited at their destination so the courier and Supt. Holroyd leave the premises. 22 Golden Square, London.

Still a smart place to work.

“Keyhole” cracks the safe but it is empty, so he and Wainwright leave hurriedly.

A rather different pace today.

“Keyhole’s” prints are found at the “Barford Job” and he is sentenced to 5 years, hitting the headlines of the evening paper. Meard Street, London W1.

Gone are the days when London evening papers were sold like this......gone are the days when they were sold!

  • 'Now' required

After Wainwright is arrested without the use of outside locations Supt. Holroyd sets about the arrest of Colonel Leon (Desmond Jeans) who tries to escape via Northolt Airport (No2 Passenger Building) with £2,000 that he has stolen. This passenger building was also seen in 'The Teckman Mystery' but of a different design and apparent location, while the airfield is seen in 'Tiger by the Tail’, 'Highly Dangerous' and ‘The Lavender Hill Mob’.

The last member of the gang to be caught was Lewis with whom Supt. Holroyd had a fight and was saved in “the nick of time” by his assistant Hunter. This could well be a set, the sign reads Chitty Street and bears no resemblance to the street of that name in London. Dave W found that whilst there was no resemblance in 2017 or now a perfect comparison could be made in 1938 as evidenced in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chitty_Street. Placing the location, as well as the background information, was a 'pleasing experience' for Dave, equally shared by the writer and hopefully other viewers too. (RL)
