Professor Marcus Monserrat (Boris Karloff) makes his way to a tobacconist shop where he has an advertisement posted.

This is Langton Street, SW10, found by Alan F who compared the shots to "Die Screaming Marianne." SJ

Once the Professor has paid the overdue five shillings fee, the Tobacconist (Martin Terry) replaces the card in the notice case.

15 Langton Street SW10. SJ

The camera starts a tilt shot outside the pub where Mike, Nichole and Alan are preparing to leave.

Avery Street, W1. Probably filmed at the same time as later scenes (010, 011). SJ

Mike Roscoe (Ian Ogilvy) asks his friend Alan (Victor Henry) to look after Nichole whilst he goes for a walk.

Tilting down too. SJ

Whilst visiting a nearby Wimpy Bar, Professor Monserrat persuades Mike to take part in his mesmerising process. The Wimpy Bar in Chiswick High Road, north of Turnham Green. The site is currently occupied by an Italian restaurant.

Hmmm, the identification of an Italian restaurant is somewhat vague. I wonder whether it was Carluccio's at 342-4 Chiswick High Road, on the north-east side of Turnham Green. It's now occupied by the black-framed garden centre Little Dobbies, but not for long as it's set to close. SJ

After experiencing the Professor's process and returning to his friends at a club, Mike takes Nicole (Elizabeth Ercy) for a midnight swim. The entrance to the baths in Dolphin Square, Pimlico SW1.

Think there's been some sorcery afoot with the entrance. SJ

After walking Nichole to her front door, Mike heads home when she goes inside.

The following day, Mike returns to work in his antique shop.

The corner of Lisson Grove NW1 and Broadley Street in NW8. (PW)

A Customer (Gerald Campion) approaches the shop. Looking out onto the junction of Lisson Grove and Broadley Terrace.

The same location now. (PW)

Meanwhile, the Professor's wife approaches a fur shop in Mayfair. Martin Kent advises that this is Avery Row in Mayfair W1.

Yes on the west side. SJ

Estelle Monserrat (Catherine Lacey) sees a fur in the shop's window and returns home to persuade her husband to use mind control to obtain it. Avery Row identified by Martin.

No cars allowed now. SJ

A Constable (Bill Barnsley) approaches as Mike robs the fur shop whilst under the control of Marcus and Estelle. Martin Kent locates this as 23 Avery Row which is currently a Paul Smith Sale shop.

The white panels have been pulled off/unscrewed but the wall below the window is the same. SJ

Borrowing Alan's motorcycle, Mike takes Nichole for a ride.

This is Doughty Mews, WC1, identified by members of the Britmovie forum. SJ

  • 'Now' required

As the Monserrats take control again, Mike takes the Norton Atlas motorbike on a high speed run.

With Nichole petrified after her ordeal, the two return to the garage where Alan works.

Doughty Mews again, WC1. No doubt about it. SJ

Alan reads about the murder of a nightclub singer that Mike was seen with on the previous evening. Martin Kent identifies this as Lisson Grove in NW1 near Ashmill Street with St Edwards Primary School to the left.

Replacing Martin's Jan '15 GEV. SJ

A Cab Driver (Arnold L. Miller) leaves a shelter with a cup of tea. Looking east on Pont Street SW1. Incidentally, Karloff lived on nearby Cadogan Square during the early 1960s.

Little change. SJ

The Cabby's mate remarks about recent murders of two young women. The junction of Pont Street and Sloane Street with the Cadogan Hotel in the left background.

No taxi in the way of this shot. SJ

One of the victims is recognised as a girl who travelled in his taxi with a young man on the previous evening. The Cadogan Hotel stands to the left on the west side of Cadogan Gardens in SW1.

Now. SJ

Alan and Nichole rush to Mike's flat to question him about his movements.

The south corner of Essex Villas and Argyll Road, W8, impressively identified by RobBeer. SJ

There's no reply and the two enter through the unlocked door, eventually calling the police.

Looks like the house is no longer divided into flats. SJ

Once alerted, a police car is sent to Mike's flat.

Highlever Road, W10 just south of Kelfield Gardens : I think we have a match both left and right. SJ

Alan and Nichole see Mike through the window of his shop. Looking out onto the junction of The corner of Lisson Grove and Broadley Street.

Taken outside on the pavement and showing the redeveloped corner opposite. (PW)

The same corner with rebuilding work in progress. (PW)

With Nichole in the car, the police arrive in the street. Looking towards Lisson Grove and Broadley Terrace from the junction of Broadley Street and Plympton Street.

I almost got it right but used the wrong window on the left as a guide! (PW)

Montrose Avenue, Burnt Oak with Blundell Road on the left. Circa 1967

After picking Alan up, the police set off to pursue Mike. Montrose Avenue, Burnt Oak, facing south, with Blundell Road on the left.

A stickler for detail, Denis Hoare managed this shot from memory and using his own car as a police vehicle was not to hand. (RL)

Cars now take over from actors for the finale chase scenes. Identified as Montrose Avenue in Burnt Oak, Edgware by Steve Saunders.

Steve provides this view from the safety of the pathway.

Roscoe speeds away in the stolen Jaguar Mk VIII. Steve Saunders recognised Montrose Avenue in Burnt Oak.

From a similar position by Steve.

The chase enters suburban streets.

The police driver loses control of his Wolseley 6/110. Denis Hoare has found the location to be Montrose Ave. London HA8 looking towards the junction with Lanacre Ave. on the right. (RL)

Having established the location Denis took a leisurely stroll to find that the junction now has a mini roundabout. (RL)

Mike gets away as the police car hits the kerb. More of Montrose Avenue in Edgware, Middlesex located by Steve Saunders.

Looks like the police car caused some damage to this parked car in Steve's shot!

The police car catches up with Mike again. Montrose Avenue in Burnt Oak, Edgware found by Steve Saunders. The bridge carries the Northern line between Colindale and Burnt Oak stations.

Steve provides this comparison.

The two cars jostle for position on a quiet road. Facing southwest on Kelfield Gardens W10. (SR)

Looking towards the junction with Highlever Road. SJ

Mike swerves into a side street, Wallingford Avenue W10. (SR)

As can often happen, I have to return to make up a missing shot. This is the same corner as the next one. SJ

The police car overshoots the corner. The junction of Kelfield Gardens and Wallingford Avenue, W10. (SR)

Just our luck: scaffolding for the moment. SJ

Still under the control of Marcus and Estelle, Mike escapes. Ray Glenister places this as Blenheim Crescent, London W11, virtually a reverse POV of Capture 44. (RL)

Looking east towards Ladbroke Grove. SJ

The Jaguar takes another corner at high speed. The public house on the left is 'The Ladbroke Hotel'.

Martin Kent tells us that The Ladbroke Hotel was at the junction of Talbot Grove, Camelford Road and Ladbroke Crescent in W11. The area has been redeveloped but Ladbroke Crescent still exists and is recognisable. This replaces the google image from Jan 2015. SJ

The Inspector's car attempts to gain ground. Martin Kent identifies Blenheim Crescent looking towards Clarendon Road W11.

The same location from Martin's Google now replaced. SJ

A tight bend and mud on the road causes Mike to skid. Martin advises that this is taken from roughly where Stable Way W10 is now, what would of been part of Latimer Road or thereabouts prior to the Westway redevelopment.

Martin continues "The tower block in the background is Frinstead House, and just in front of that to the right is St Annes nursery school, previously known as Latimer Road primary school". Image copyright Google Maps.

Fighting to recover from the skid, Mike's car smashes through a fence onto waste ground.

Unrecognisable now, but this is looking north on Shalfleet Drive towards what used to be nos. 36-44 Mersey Street, W10. SJ

The car rolls over and bursts into flames, killing Mike. This is now Shalfleet Drive W10, close to where the Junction of Mersey Street and Silchester Terrace once stood. The building in the background to the left was The Holy Trinity Church on Latimer Road, now The Harrow Club and to the right, Latimer Road Primary School, now St Annes Nursery School.

Location identification and information from Martin Kent, whose Jan 15 GEV is now replaced. This is looking west. Since then Shalfleet Drive has seen further changes with a building added behind my left shoulder. SJ

Inspector Matalon (Ivor Dean) arrives on the scene as Estelle and Marcus Monserrat suffer the same fate as their victim.

As in cap46, looking back to what was Mersey Street at its junction with Silchester Terrace, now all subsumed by Waynflete Square. SJ
