Establishing shot of 'the east end' at the start of the film. This is a studio set at Shepperton and the image is included for the sake of completeness.

According to IMDB this film was shot at Shepperton Studios with the only 'outside' location listed as Osterley Park House so this is probably no where near Shad Thames or Wapping Wall.

However, Rob Clack found Cathedral Street, SE1. This location was also used in 'Scrooge (1951)' as well as the similar themed 'Murder by Decree'.

Inspector Lestrade (Frank Finlay) arrives on the scene.

Cathedral Street, SE1 as in image stute002 but a bit further along. The large building on the far left is St Mary Overy's Wharf, now The Old Thameside Inn. Information and now shot by Rob Clack.

Osterley Park House, Isleworth, Middlesex. Also seen in Billion Dollar Brain.

The same location now by Dave Wood who adds that the hedge was removed in the 1990s.

Sherlock Holmes (John Neville) and Dr. John Watson (Donald Houston) arrive at the home of Lord Carfax. Osterley Park House, Middlesex.

Josh and Dan Wood play junior Sherlock and Watson in this picture from their father, Dave.

Holmes and Watson stride purposefully. Another part of the studio set at Shepperton, also included for the sake of completeness.

Not another studio set. This is Brighton Terrace, east of Patcham Terrace in SW8, also seen in 'All Coppers Are . . .'. The houses have since been demolished. Thank you Simon James for the identification.

And this is just south of the same place. (PW)

Crowds gather to hear Doctor Murray (Anthony Quayle). Ray Glenister found this one, Cathedral Street looking towards Montague Close, London SE1 (RL)

Ray find's 'em and I snap 'em. A much redeveloped area but Southwark Cathedral remains to the right. (RL)

Doctor Murray addresses the crowd as Sally Young (Judi Dench) and Lord Carfax (John Fraser) look on.

Rob Clack says 'The jury's out a bit, but I am fairly confident that this is the North side of Southwark Cathedral. An extension has been added so an exact shot wouldn't show much of the cathedral. It's also right next to some of the other locations (Cathedral Street) that were used in the film'.

A repeat of Capture 9. Christopher Matheson resolved this one some years ago, even talking with the Cathedral and recently went inside to capture a shot for us.

He was, of course, limited as to the angle but the essential elements are there and hopefully now "the jury" can make a unanimous decision. (RL)

Holmes and Watson depart. Osterley Park House, Middlesex.

The sasme location now. The road was removed in 1990s as the National Trust restored the land to a 17th Century look. Information and picture from Dave Wood.
