If you have any information regarding this production, the locations or, even better, some comparison shots please contact us. Images submitted must be in Landscape orientation, as would be seen on the cinema screen, not Portrait.

We are aware that there are films on the site that were added when the criteria for the inclusion of locations was very different from today and, as a result, there may be scenes missing from some productions. Please do not forward additional screen captures to us but bring the detail to our attention, for we do, and are, 're-addressing' these older entries as time allows.

Morag Sinclair, daughter of the Commanding Officer, heads for the castle. Stirling Castle in Stirling, Scotland other parts of which can be seen in 'Burke and Hare' from 2010 and 'Kidnapped'.

Now from Dave Wilson. (RL)

The gates of Stirling Castle. The view behind the wall is partially a matte.

Dave Wilson captures the scene without a matte. (RL)

Major Jock Sinclair, DSO MM leaves the castle and heads for home with Stirling castle in the background.

More activity when Dave Wilson was there. (RL)

The Major arrives home. A heavilly matted shot. The house is on Long Walk, Windsor at the junction with Park Street and the gate posts are also seen in 'A Case for P.C. 49'.

Doesn't it look different without the castle?

  • 'Now' required

Major Sinclair, Lieutenant Colonel Barrow and Captain Cairns watch the Regiment's Pipers. Studio set included for sake of completeness.

Major Sinclair outside the theatre. This looks very much like the Theatre Royal in Thames Street, Windsor . . . . .

. . . . . but its a mock up on Church Lane, Windsor at the side of the Guildhall. The building in the background is the Castle Hotel on High Street.

The Major enters the stage door to visit actress Mary Titterington. This is the bottom of the steps at the back of the Guildhall on Market Street, Windsor, a location that can be seen in 'Terror Street, while the narrow streets around appear in 'Allez France!', 'Brimstone and Treacle' from 1982, 'The Stranger Left No Card', 'The Last Page' and 'A Case for P.C. 49'.

It's now clear that this isn't the Theatre Royal.

Major Sinclair drives into the town. Peascod Street in Windsor, Berkshire. A similar sequence was seen in ‘The Ballad of Tam Lin' and the street also appears in ‘No Sex Please, We're British’, 'The White Trap' and ‘On the Beat’.

A very cluttered Peascod Street, Windsor, Berkshire. The Regal Cinema, seen to the left of centre in the screen shot, closed in 1969.

Swinging the view round, the Major's Land Rover passes . . . . .

. . . . . the junction of William Street and Peascod Street, Windsor.

Some of the regiment leave a local pub. Is it a set or is it somewhere in Windsor?

It's real and it is in Windsor.

Major Sinclair meets with his men outside the pub.

The buildings in the background stand on the High Street end of Church Lane in Windsor which makes this Market Street in Windsor and the pub The Carpenters Arms!

Mary Titterington (Kay Walsh) goes to the Majors house.

Park Street passing through the gates onto Long Walk, Windsor.

Mary arrives at Major Sinclair's front door.

Different door, same house. Long Walk, Windsor in Berkshire.

At the end of the film, Major Jock Sinclair is taken from the castle.

Dave Wilson has supplied this photo of the only part of the castle that could fit this shot, he has provided a full size shot for our files. However, the only part that vaguely matches are the columns of the tunnel but coupled with the many other aspects that do not fit lead to suggest that this was a set. (RL) Contrary views welcomed!

Driving away from the castle. Stirling Castle.

Dave Wilson captures the bridge without traffic. (RL)

Heading towards the city in the snow. Stirling Castle, Stirling and Falkirk, Scotland.

Dave Wilson finds that it is now a much more popular spot. (RL)
