Two and Two Make Six

At USAF Framlingham, Sergeant Sokolow discovers that Larry Curado has left the base even though his leave was refused.

Having met Prudence Smith-Adams (Nina Parry) at the races, Larry Curado (George Chakiris) visits her at the stables where she works.

Larry makes it to the next race meeting. It was an odds on favourite that Peter Brown (2) would identify this for us, Hurst Park racecourse, that was situated in West Molesey, Surrey but closed in 1962. The course also features in 'Soho Incident', 'The Calendar', 'Never Back Losers' and 'The Criminal'. As Peter says "It must have been a bad day for the various movie location managers when they shut the place down! (RL)

Having avoided arrest by Sergeant Sokolow by accidentally knocking him out, Larry hides in a shed in Julie's garden.

Julie leaves the house with her brother's motorcycle gear.

Larry watches Julie approach the shed with the leathers for him to wear whilst fleeing to the coast on her brother's motorbike.

With Julie insisting that she goes with him, the pair ride away together.

A corner is taken at speed.

Up ahead, a traffic signal turns red as Larry approaches.

The motorcycle passes the traffic signal without reducing speed.

Having slowly gained on Larry and Julie over the last mile or so, a Police car eventually overtakes.

Breathing a sigh of relief as the Police car speeds away, Larry spots a level crossing coming up. Located by Jonathan Horswell, this is facing west on Bath Road in Poyle, Middlesex.

Still level but not a crossing any more, Antony Blair found that the gates and rails have been removed.

The crossing gates begin to close. Jonathan Horswell advises that the level crossing was just south of Colnbrook station and took Bath Road over the Staines West branch.

Bumping into the rear of the bike in his car, a Bowler-hatted Man (Jeremy Lloyd) apologises and offers to pay for any damage whilst handing over his card. Bath Road at Poyle identified by Jonathan Horswell.

When Larry opens the throttle as the crossing gates swing back across the railway, the Bowler-hatted Man gets back into his car and sets off after them to return Julie's dropped scarf. Antony Blair returned to the scene 61 years later to find a old level crossing sign still still in place.

Julie looks back to see the following car as Larry accelerates away.

The Bowler-hatted Man gains ground.

Larry spots a suitable gap in the trees ahead and turns off the road to lose their pursuer.

When Julie tells Larry that she's hungry, the pair stop off at the Max Snax Café.

When a Policeman enters the café, Larry leaves while Julie takes his money and identity cards and hides in the ladies toilet.

In the café's car park, Tom Bennett makes adjustments to his motorbike's engine whilst waiting for his girlfriend Irene.

Thomas Ernest Bennett (Alfred Lynch) gets up from behind his bike after Irene jumps onto the back of Larry's machine by mistake before the two ride away.

Looking back towards the café, Julie climbs onto Tom's bike.

Larry approaches a junction and takes the road to Westport.

At the same junction, Tom takes the Sevenhills turn off.

Running low on fuel, Tom pulls into a garage.

Seeing each other for the first time, Tom and Julie question who each of them are.

Tom takes Julie back to the Max Snax Café where a Police have arrived to investigate the robbery of 20,000 cigarettes from a lorry.

When Irene and Larry realise what has happened, they too return to the café.

Seeing the Police car, Larry drives past as Irene (Janette Scott) complains.

As Tom and Julie decide to make for Sevenhills where he was to visit Aunt Phoebe, Larry takes Irene on to Westport.

The camera pans with Larry and Irene as they pass.

Tom and Julie reach Sevenhills, where he hopes that Irene will follow him. Looking north-west on Bathwick Hill in Bath, Somerset, just past the corner of Cleveland Walk out of view on the right identified by M. Brennan, .

When he realises that Irene doesn't know his Aunt's address Tom brings the bike to a stand. Found by M. Brennan, this is facing north-east on Camden Crescent in Bath.

Tom pulls away when Julie suggests that they just go to his Aunt's house anyway. Camden Crescent, now looking towards Lansdown Road, located by M. Brennan.

The two reach the Sevenhills Girls College where Miss Phoebe Tonks' has just completed a dance class.

Julie watches a rude Pupil pull her tongue out after leaving the college.

At the Grand Hotel in Westport, Larry and Irene are told that they can't check in for one night without luggage. The canopy over the entrance to the Grand Hotel on Broad Street in Bristol 1.

Tilting down, the shot finds the Hotel's Commissionaire as he steps out on the pavement. Broad Street with the corner of Newmarket Avenue to the left.

Neil Kenny's view was restricted by a coach parked outside the hotel entrance.

The coach standing outside the hotel was standing in a marked area that aligned exactly where the car and motorbike were parked in the screen capture so Neil Kenny moved into the road for this shot.

Larry and Irene go for a drink in the Garrick pub and agree to move on to Sevenhills in the morning. This appears to be the view westward along the River Avon from the end of Gasworks Lane in Bristol 1.

Leaving Irene at the downmarket Hotel Versailles, Larry stares along the river.

Having made his way to the docks, Larry explains to a Ship's Captain that he has to collect the money from Sevenhills after arranging passage to the States for £150.

Having bought an American style dress after a comment from a Man in the bus queue, Irene arrives in Sevenhills. Sydney Place in Bath, Somerset with Sutton Street to the left.

Feeling great in her new clothes, Irene marches towards the imposing building. Looking from the Holburne Museum towards Great Pulteney Street with Sutton Street to the right, located by Steve Randall.

Directions to the Education Department are sought. Steve Randall found the entrance portico of the Holburne Museum in Sydney Gardens, Bath. The Holburne Museum can also be seen in 'The Duchess' and 'Vanity Fair'.

Inside the Education Department's office, Irene tells the Officials that she's looking for a Headmistress who's name is Phobe. Steve Randall explains that the statues are the Victorian sculptures of Emperors that guard over the Roman Baths in Bath with the arch to the top left passing over York Street.

Crossing the road following his narrow escape, Larry looks back at the two Americans as Tom and Julie embark on a spending spree after checking into the Grand Hotel. The corner of Horsefair and Merchant Street.

Joined by a second AP (John Gardiner) who has received a report that a USAF deserter may be in Westport, the two Airman walk away. Merchant Street in Bristol 1.

To replace SJ's quite off angle shot with his blessing, Neil Kenny returned to the location.

After Larry confronts Julie and Tom at the Grand Hotel, he and Irene walk hand in hand through the city.

The camera follows the couple.

Larry and Irene look into each others eyes while Julie tends to Tom's injuries in their hotel room.

As evening turns to night, he pair make their way out of the city. Looking down onto Clifton Suspension Bridge spanning the River Avon.

On his travels, Greg Scott visited the Clifton Suspension Bridge.

Larry talks about baseball and America and Irene speaks about cricket. Clifton Downs in Bristol 8 with the top of the Clifton Observatory to the left of centre.

Morning dawns on the day that Larry's ship is scheduled to leave. On Clifton Down near Clifton Observatory with Clifton Suspension Bridge spanning the Avon Gorge. The bridge can also be seen in 'The Beauty Jungle' and 'Some People'.

Back at Framlingham Base Larry finds Irene waiting in Colonel Thompson's office.

A year later, Julie leaves a clinic carrying a baby.

Julie joins Irene outside the clinic and the two wheel their prams away together.
