If you have any information regarding this production, the locations or, even better, some comparison shots please contact us. Images submitted must be in Landscape orientation, as would be seen on the cinema screen, not Portrait.

We are aware that there are films on the site that were added when the criteria for the inclusion of locations was very different from today and, as a result, there may be scenes missing from some productions. Please do not forward additional screen captures to us but bring the detail to our attention, for we do, and are, 're-addressing' these older entries as time allows.

Pre-credit sequence: Jökulsárlón, approx. 50 miles from Hofn.

Hamilton McMurray gives details "This was taken at the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, Iceland in 2017. I was driving around Iceland on the ring road and stopped at Jökulsárlón to take a (very fast) motorboat ride around the Lagoon – which is full of icebergs from the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier." Great match of the background (SJ)

Still in the pre-credits teaser: Iceland or more probably Switzerland and near Pontresina, see end credits, and confirmed by Ian Johnson/IJ as filmed on the slopes of Piz Palü near to Pontresina.

Establishment shot to show MI6's offices, or at least a random window in a government office building. The building, being an official secret, jumped around considerably in the series until we went for the real thing in The World is Not Enough.

Whitehall, SW1. RJ with an update from IJ that the Old War Office on the right is now a hotel, Raffles at the OWO, which can be seen in my comparison for The Lonely House 15. (SJ)

Bond & co. investigate Walken at Ascot races... IJ adds, "Footage taken at the Royal Ascot meeting held in June 1984. This and other footage was edited with the production filming conducted in August 1984 at the racecourse."

A good clue here.

Hans took this from Torcadéro. (SJ)

An interior: Restaurant Le Jules Verne, Tour Eiffel, Paris.

"This was taken in 2015 and shows the view from my lunch table at the Restaurant Jules Verne on the second floor of the Eiffel Tower. The scene in capture 6 was evidently shot on a studio set because the real Jules Verne (although excellent and very interesting) is constructed on a rather smaller scale." Hamilton again (SJ)

Moore chases Jones on the Eiffel Tower.

Trocadero and beyond that La Défense from the Eiffel Tower. SJ

Jones parachutes off the tower, or was it stuntman? ... Of course it's a stuntman, American BJ Worth, who was a Bond regular from Moonraker onwards, as Michael Bradley informs. (SJ)

Car stunts after the spectacular jump as Moore tenaciously chases Jones.

Pont d'léna Stairs next to the Pont d'léna Bridge, Pont de La Bourdonnais, right next to the tower. RJ

Jones aims for a pleasure cruiser over the Pont des Invalides.

Passing under the Pont Alexandre III.

Moving to the next bridge east, Hans took this from below the Quai d'Orsay looking north-west towards the Grand Palais. (SJ)

Quai de l'Horloge, with Pont Neuf in the right distance. (Steve Randall)

Hans looked west from the Île de la Cité. (SJ)

Château de Chantilly, Chantilly, Oise, just north of Paris in France.

Hans looked north-west to the Musée Vivant du Cheval and la Porte Saint-Denis on the D924A. (SJ)

Macnee drives Moore from the stables to the principal house entrance ... and this Rolls was Cubby Broccoli's very own to his delight. (IJ)

Hans again. (SJ)

Their rather splendid room's balcony, useful for Moore and Macnee to have a conversation away from microphones.

Hans with his best angle. (SJ)

Sutton arrives by helicopter to be greeted by Zorin (Walken).

Hans missed the helicopter. (SJ)

The Chateau from another angle.

Hamilton tells us, "This was taken in 2015 when I was on a motoring tour through France. I had stopped at Chantilly to visit the chateau and the Musee Conde. No overtly villainous behaviour was observed during this visit." (SJ)

Moore, armed with champagne, begins to unleash his charms on Roberts.

Hans was probably restricted by the angle here. (SJ)

Macnee at the gates.

Hamilton McMurray took this match from just the right of the gatehouse. (SJ)

Macnee entering the deadly car wash.

Hans found the business still going. (SJ)

BP garage du Parc Aumontin, at the corner of Avenue du Maréchal Joffre & Rue de L'Embarcadere, Chantilly. Doody is here to pick up Jones after she has dispatched Macnee.

Hans was just west of the Chantilly grounds. (SJ)

Bond and Zorin compete in a horse race with Zorin’s henchmen ensuring Bond has a very unpleasant ride. Filmed close to the village of Avilly-saint-Leonard near Chantilly. First of 8 added stills provided by IJ.

Walken and Jones dump the Rolls, Moore and Macnee in a water-filled quarry said to be one of those in Wraysbury, at the time of filming in Berkshire, now the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead... Confirmed by IJ who assures us that this isn't Broccoli's Rolls but just a body shell!.

The Chantilly race-course, where Zorin receives a strong rebuke from General Gogol of the KGB.

Hans found a similarly empty stand. (SJ)

Bond (Moore) meets crab salesman Lee (Yip), but actually member of the CIA, in San Francisco, California. More precisely they are on the jetty of the Fisherman's Wharf, one of the top tourists destination in the city. The "Fishermen's Grotto" restaurant to see in the background still exists. Added detail from Manuel Gurtner (SJ).

Taken by Rob Smith and sent in by Becca Andrews. (SJ)

Moore drives to Dunsmuir House & Gardens, 2960 Peralta Oaks Court, Oakland, California.

Becca found more growth on the approach. (SJ)

Another shot of the Dunsmuir aka Dunsmuir-Hellman Historic Estate.

Approaching "Silicon Valley," but not California but England. Like Austin Powers in reverse.

It is in fact Amberley Chalk Pit in West Sussex.

RJ was there.

Entering the mine. This is west of Storrington and north of Arundel off New Barn Road.

Now. RJ

Whilst Zorin is detonating the explosives in the Main Strike mine workings, the man in the boat has a peaceful day’s fishing completely ruined! Depicting a lake in Silicon Valley, it was in fact filmed at Dell Quay estuary in Sussex. (IJ)

It is perfectly safe to be on the water today. SD

Stacey climbs out of a shaft to escape the flooded mine. This is on top of the De Witt Lime Kilns at Amberley Chalk Pits Museum. The museum has since been renamed Amberley Museum. (SD)

This is the shaft which is separate from the other six De Witt Kiln shafts. It has now been filled in and has had some repairs to the brickwork. SD

Jones swaps sides: hey, didn't Kiel do this in Moonraker? Can't get good sidekicks nowadays.

Now. RJ

A sweeping shot of the pit area.

RJ on ground level.

Stacey calls out to James but she fails to notice the Zorin Industries airship approaching. This model of airship is a SkyShip 500 and in reality would have taken 24 hours to inflate. At the time of filming this dip in the chalkface at Amberley Museum had no buildings near to it. (SD)

In 1987 the Southdown Bus Garage was built here. It was constructed to a design typical of bus garages from the 1920s. SD

Walken's blimp passes over San Francisco.

A view from Becca Andrews as the famous SF fog burns off. (SJ)

The Golden Gate, actually red. Alan Morley recalls driving his van through Bognor Regis when the balloon flew over with a man hanging from it! When he saw the film at the cinema he recognised the scene . . . with the Golden Gate Bridge behind the balloon... IJ points out that the DVD film background commentary provided by John Richardson, Special Visual Effects, clearly refers to the the stuntman hanging beneath the helicopter whilst being filmed by a following helicopter on location at the Golden Gate... Perhaps a bit of both! (SJ)

A cloudier day for Becca. (SJ)

  • 'Now' required

The majority of the sequence seen on film between Bond and Zorin with the blimp stuck at the top of the bridge was filmed at Pinewood with reconstruction work and SFX etc. However, some limited (but dangerous) stunt work did take place on the bridge itself as shown in this shot. (IJ)

Some location help in the credits.

Becca took this from one of the viewing points near the visitors' centre. (SJ)

A bonus capture as Fiona Fullerton emerges from the sea.

This is taken by Rob Smith, sent in by Becca, north-east of the bridge and across the bay off Ocean Avenue, Richmond. (SJ)
