Jean Raymond (Glynis Johns), whilst talking to Betty Brown (Diana Dors) about how she ended up in prison, we see this flashback of Jean leaving the dress shop she worked at.

Majority of the first half of the movie is set inside prison. Here we see the open prison that Jean and Betty get transferred to. HM Prison The Grange in the movie.

Steve Randall identifies this site as Oakland College, St Albans, Hertfordshire. The 18th century mansion was bought by the then Hertford County Council in 1921 and was established as the Hertfordshire County Council Agricultural Institute. In 1991 it became Oakland College.

Whilst in the open prison, two of the inmates discuss how they ended up in prison and we see the flashback. The two ladies discuss how one of their marriages, entered into to gain money as the husband was old, didn't quite work out that way.

Seeing and advert for Weed Killer gives the ladies an idea, which eventually ends them in prison.
