Wirtshaus von Dartmoor, Das (The Inn on Dartmoor)

As sirens begin to wait, a Figure makes his way down the wall of Dartmoor Prison.

Reaching the ground, 3615 Rayburn makes a run for it, adding to the twelve convicts that have already escaped from the remote prison.

A Warder stands his bicycle outside The Dartmoor Inn where Australian photographer Anthony Nash has checked in under the name of Smith. The establishment looks very much like a set.

The story moves to London as Dartmoor Inn barmaid Evelyn Webster suggests that Nash visits Rayburn's lawyer. The view along Monument Street EC3 from The Monument, over the Custom House on Lower Thames Street towards Tower Bridge crossing the River Thames.

Nash visits solicitor Basil Gray to ask questions about the Butterfly Association. Cannon Row, now Canon Row, in SW1 at the corner of Derby Gate with South Block at the corner of Parliament Street and King Charles Street to the bottom right.

That evening, Nash takes Gray's secretary Joyce Trevor out for drinks. Piccadilly Circus in W1.

The couple head to the Green Door Club where Nash explains that his former colleague Rayburn had committed a murder in Australia before Inspector Cromwell approaches the pair. In 1964 'Noel' fashions were at 147 Kensington High Street and 'Manfield' at 153 Kensington High Street. (RL)

Seen from Victoria Embankment SW1, the Clock Tower of the Houses of Parliament stands to the left as a pan right brings New Scotland Yard into view.

Inspector Cromwell tells Sir James that he believes all of the prisoners that have escaped from Dartmoor have been murdered. The shot ends facing what is now the Norman Shaw North Building.

Beyond the entrance to Trafalgar Square station at the corner of The Mall SW1 stands the National Gallery overlooking Trafalgar Square in WC2.

On reflection, I should be further back but the traffic was constant. SJ

Inspector Cromwell enters a stationery shop to continue his enquiries into the Butterfly Association. A foggy Piccadilly Circus with the Shaftesbury Memorial Fountain to the centre and the London Pavilion cinema on the left.

With Policemen posing as workers inside the Empire Hotel, Nash and Fletcher keep watch outside.

The Odeon Luxe Leicester Square is still going strong. This is on the east side and not to be confused with the newly rebuilt Odeon Luxe West End on the south side, where once the Leicester Square Theatre stood. SJ

After Nash and Fletcher are arrested and sent to Dartmoor prison, the Inspector follows Gray to Plymouth . . . . played by Victoria Embankment on the SW1 / EC4 boundary and given away by the OXO Tower on the extreme right.

Inspector Cromwell’s Austin Cambridge creeps along a misty street.

Across the road, the Inspector spots Gray's Vauxhall Cresta parked outside a nondescript building.

Parking around the corner, Inspector Cromwell gets out of his car . . .

. . . and finds a rear entrance into the building where he finds a blood covered body. This appears to be within the ARCA Filmateliers studios at Seeschloß Pichelsberg on Havelchaussee, adjacent to Stößensee, in the Westend district of West Berlin.

Sirens begin to sound bringing Warders from the prison as Nash's planned escape takes place.
