Years Between, The

The story begins in June 1940 with a sequence of serene village views to set the scene.

This is The Green in the village of Chiddingfold, Surrey with the distinctive Burdock Brothers' grocers to the left.

Mick and Julie Mowatt paid a visit to the village.

Mick and Julie found that the bushes aren't tended as well as they were some 70 years ago.

The camera pans to follow the Telegram Boy. Looking across the village pond towards the junction of Petworth Road and Coxcombe Lane where an Aldershot & District Traction Company bus waits for passengers.

Mick and Julie managed to include a bus at the same bus stop.

At the home of Diana Wentworth, the Telegram Boy delivers a telegram informing her that her husband Colonel Wentworth has been killed in action.

A memorial service is held for the Colonel during which Diana recalls the too few years that they spent together. St. Mary's church in Chiddingfold. The village also appears in 'The Ups and Downs of a Handyman'.

Passing the Gardener, Tom the Postman (Edward Rigby) walks towards the house where Diana and Nanny reside.

Tom rings the doorbell alerting Nanny to his presence.

Robin Wentworth (John Gilpin) accompanies Nanny (Flora Robson) to a waiting trap.

Nanny continues out of the village. Living around Chiddingfold and visiting the surrounding areas as a child, Kevan Bourne recognised the historic double bridge at Eashing near Godalming in Surrey.

Passing through the Wentworth's iron gates while out on his round, Tom passes Diana in her trap and asks about her standing for Parliament.

Diana rides on after telling Alice that she will be travelling to London and will need to be picked up to catch the 11 o'clock train. The garage stood at the corner of Petworth Road and Mill Lane.

A young Lad breaks from fishing to wave at Diana as she passes on the way home. Eashing Bridges over the River Wey in Lower Eashing, Surrey identified by Kevan Bourne.

John Harwood replaces the cart with a car but assumes the river has been cleared a bit. (It does indeed seem that there's nothing to match. SJ)

Having made her mind up to stand as an MP, Diana wins her husband's former seat in Parliament. The Houses of Parliament in London SW1.

Church bells chime the hour as Alice picks up Diana from the station. Coxcombe Lane in Chiddingfold.

Antony Blair returned to find the same location and buildings 78 years later.

After being advised by Sir Ernest Foster that Colonel Wentworth has been found alive in a prisoner of war camp, a plane brings Diana's husband home.

Alice drives Diana, Michael and his Batman Venning home after they travel to the village by train.

Passing a replacement wooden fence, the car turns onto the now gate-less driveway of the Wentworth's property.

Michael gets out of the car and walks to the house, wanting to see what else the government has taken whilst he's been away.

Colonel Wentworth continues walking through the grounds of the home he remembers.

Diana crosses the lawn when she sees her husband draw near to the house.

While out walking, Diana turns to see Richard approaching.

After Michael declines her invitation to travel up to London with her, Diana is driven to the station.

Michael travels to London to speak with Sir Ernest Foster about reclaiming his seat in Parliament. Facing east in Parliament Square with the Houses of Parliament forming the background.
