Romeo and Juliet (1968) – “What must be shall be”

The text supporting 001a puts forward two points of view and a challenge with a camera, indeed other screen shots have similar disagreements as to whether they are real locations or Cinecittà sets. Well, Masayuki Sasao has done some really interesting research which he has kindly shared with us.

He comes to the firm conclusion that the scenes in the church square are filmed in the Cinecittà sets with the following evidence:

 

The same panels of bricks are used on the wall.

The same stones on the wall.

The same relief panels are used, just slightly modified.

The wrong stone connections on the corner.

The same decorative elements are used in the scene of the cemetery…..

He has in addition, taken his own screen shots and related them to a plan of the set that he has prepared.
