The Foreman Went to France – Associated Story
Peter Penberthy spent his childhood in the Cornish village of Porthleven where ‘The Foreman Went to France was partially filmed and has provided us with the following associated story.
“Shortly before the film was released, my grandparents, who came from Porthleven, took ownership of their new home in Porthleven … ‘Wave Crest’, located behind the old life-boat house opposite the Porthleven Institute & breakwater. At the time it was summer 1939, and my grandmother returned from Calcutta, India, where she and my grandfather had moved whilst he was MD of Gestetner Duplicators. As a result of the onsuing WW2 my grandfather was unable to return to see his new house until 1947. However, on seeing the newly released film, ‘The Forman Went to France’, my grandmother advised my grandfather that there were some wonderful views of ‘Wave Crest’ as the boats left the harbour! Consequently, my grandfather viewed the film at the cinema in Calcutta to view his new home!!”
Regrettably Peter’s DVD copy of the film, like our ‘in-house’ copy, appears to have been forshortened at the point where the boats leave the harbour and as a result ‘Wave Crest’ does not appear. Does anyone know of a full length copy of the film?
