Jack Daniels' and his band pull up to get petrol. 'butterfieldade' tells us that this, together with the following captures, are the South Mimms Service Station, sometimes known as Bignell's Corner, where the A1 Barnet By-Pass and the A6 St. Albans Road met in Hertfordshire. Scattered around the junction were two pubs, a garage, a garden centre named Bignell's (hence the junction's name), a motel and a truckstop. (RL)

Charlie, Jack Daniels (Alan Lake), Paul, Barry and Angie (Sara Clee) head for the Beacon Cafe whilst the attendant deals with the car. The truckstop was known as the Beacon Café, and was popular with lorry drivers heading in and out of London. (RL)

Stoker's band, The Undertakers, chases the band from the cafe. South Mimms became the first service area on the M25, with new facilities opening on 6 June 1987 and has subsequently grown and grown. (RL)

Heading into a gents toilet, the pair hold a meeting where Stoker agrees to join the band. Looking along Bevington Road from the junction with Golborne Road just off Portobello Road in London W10. The street also features in 'Just Like a Woman’, ‘Notting Hill’ and ‘The Squeeze’.

Barry (Dave Hill) gets into the back of the van. Otley Street, Sheffield. Stephen Ford recalls that "the film was recorded at my old house on Otley Street and my brother and I had a game of football with the band members whilst my mum made bacon sandwiches for them".

Stoker's agent, Ron Harding (Johnny Shannon), arrives at the venue with his 'associates' Lenny and Ron. Richard Smith advises that at the time of filming the venue on Greyfriar Gate, Nottingham was called The Sherwood Rooms and was the centre piece for band's in the '60s and '70s. He believes the interior "gig" shots were also filmed there. (RL)

Paul walks across waste ground to visit Stoker in his pigeon loft. Fantastically located by Alan Field is Willesden High Level Junction signal box in the background whilst the foreground shows, what was, disused land between railway lines to the south east of Stoke Place, London NW10. The North London Line runs across the image on its way between Willesden Junction and Acton Central and the bridge seen on the left crosses the West Coast Main Line.

Now on the road to success, the band are renamed 'Flame' and are taken to Radio City, a pirate radio station. Alan Bainbridge explains that Red Sands Fort stands in for Shivering Sands Army Fort off the Kent coast.

Clive Brett was not prepared to get his feet wet so relied upon Google Earth. (RL)

The band members climb to the studio at Shivering Sands. Red Sands Fort in the Thames estuary identified by Alan Bainbridge who adds that Shivering Sands was the home of Radio City in the 60s. However, Red Sands Fort had seven towers while Shivering Sands had six and the latter had deteriorated far quicker by the time filming took place.

Robert Seymour (Tom Conti) persuades the Chairman of the Board (A.J. Brown) to invest. Working there during 1975, Fred Aylward recognised the rooftop garden of the Biba store at 99-117 Kensington High Street W8 with the Copthorne Hotel on Scarsdale Place to the extreme left.

After the radio station is attacked, 'Flame' are airlifted from the wartime fort by helicopter. Red Sands Fort off the coast near Whitstable, Kent. Alan Bainbridge tells us that a scan of the script with part of the shooting schedule was published on Don Powell's website a few years ago which confirms the location.

The band arrive at Seymour's house. Binfield Manor on Forest Road, Binfield near Bracknell in Berkshire located by Steve Randall. The building was also seen in 'Interlude', 'See No Evil', 'Murder is Easy', 'Tales That Witness Madness', and 'Mrs. Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter'.

Returning north, a disheartened Charlie talks with his old Boss, Harold (Patrick Connor). Peter Checksfield identifies this as the railway bridge crossing the River Tillingham at Rye in East Sussex with Tillingham Sluice beside Winchelsea Road in the centre distance.

From the safety of the river bank, Peter provides this proof of the location.

Charlie talks about his doubts and invites Harold to Barry's birthday party. Looking towards Winchelsea Road in Rye from beneath the railway bridge over the River Tillingham in Rye located by Peter Checksfield who stumbled across the filming of this scene and was able to ask Don Powell for his autograph.

Peter took this shot from half way down the river bank which is so overgrown that he didn’t risk going any further to get the viewpoint right as it was difficult to gauge where the bank ended and the river began!
