If you have any information regarding this production, the locations or, even better, some comparison shots please contact us. Images submitted must be in Landscape orientation, as would be seen on the cinema screen, not Portrait.

We are aware that there are films on the site that were added when the criteria for the inclusion of locations was very different from today and, as a result, there may be scenes missing from some productions. Warnley Town Station, uses Halifax Station, info from Tony Reeves and his excellent book on worldwide movie locations.

Halifax Railway Station. Identified by Matthew Godfrey.

At the time of the film's release, John Broadley recalls the British Railways staff magazine "North Eastern News" having a still of Laurence Harvey walking away from Warnley Town railway station on the cover. At this time, the signage to the top left would have been the white on tangerine of the North Eastern Region which gave way to dark blue when the region was merged with the Eastern Region in 1967.

What is clearly a much changed Halifax Railway Station as seen by Olly Denton. (RL)

Another shot of Halifax Railway Station from Olly Denton, it may not be the correct angle but with all the changes it is difficult to know. (RL)

Tony Reeves suggests that Warnley Town is in fact Bradford. Yes, Bradford near Town Hall according to Matthew Godfrey.

Bradford near Town Hall. Matthew Godfrey.

Matthew thinks this may be James Gate, Bradford, looking up towards John Street.

John Yeadon sent this in; The side of the Boy and Barrel in Jamesgate, Bradford, which has had a much needed coat of paint. This is the opposite view from rt018n although much has apparently changed. Seems strange that the City fathers would have allowed a change of use from residential to commercial.

Ivegate, Bradford. Identified by Matthew Godfrey.

Another from John Yeadon, At the top of Ivegate, Bradford. The pub in the centre was a Yates but now named The Cube.

John Thompson recalls this being filmed in Bradford when he was a child of about eight years old. He and one of his older brothers, Alan, were watching the shoot when one of the crew asked Alan to walk down the street as a extra. John recognises this, and the following sequence, as being Brownroyd Street where the actors stood at the entrance to the City dog track, as it was known, but officially called The City Stadium. The entrance ran over a railway line from the City Goods yard in Thornton Road. Having found some old photographs of the area Alan has kindly agreed to share them with us to supplement the detail in this and the Captures through to No 16. These can be viewed via the link in the Header Section of this film. (RL)

Bradford. Matthew Godrey says Kirkgate and the pub on the left is the Shoulder of Mutton and it still looks broadly the same.

The Shoulder of Mutton on Kirkgate, Bradford. Proof at last from John Yeadon

A repeat of Capture 33 showing Lawrence Harvey looking across Kirkgate. Alan Thompson, in OZ, although mentioned by his brother in other capture text has only just been introduced to Reelstreets! He.....

........ provides us with this Google Earth view of Kirkgate giving a fuller perspective of 'The Shoulder of Mutton' pub that has only been referred to in Captures 33, 35 and 36. (RL)

Market Street, Bradford facing toward frontage of old Forster Square Railway Station entrance. Matthew Godfrey. Near the Shoulder of Mutton claims Kieran Wilkinson. Alan Thompson adds "Lawrence Harvey is stood outside the cafe, with the camera looking down Kirkgate, towards the Midland Hotel and Forster Sq Station curtain wall."

Oliver Denton found this: Kirkgate, Bradford, looking towards Forster Square and Midland Hotel. Picture taken from Google Street view.

Market Street, Bradford facing toward frontage of old Forster Square Railway Station entrance. Matthew Godfrey. Near Shoulder of Mutton, Kieran is going to send photo proof. Alan tells us that "Lawrence Harvey looks to be further down Kirkgate walking back towards the cafe, In the back ground is the bank on the corner or Cheapside and Kirkgate, beyond is the Midland Hotel and Forster Sq Station Curtain wall. (RL)

Well, we have had this Google shot from Olly Denton in the meantime. (RL)

Is this Halifax Station again? No, Matthew Godfrey says this isn't Halifax Railway Station. Jon Horswell recognises this as Baynards station, which is confirmed by Nick Catford, also seen in 'The Grass is Greener', 'Rotten to the Core', 'They Were Sisters' and 'Monster of Terror'. He adds that in February 1957 the BBC filmed an adaption of 'The Railway Children' at this station. (RL)

Not quite the proof I wanted but the best I could do without trespass. SJ

Town Hall, Bradford and streets around it says Matthew Godfrey. Halifax Town Hall according to Peter Priest. The Town Hall is definitely Halifax, I remember it being filmed Martin Titchmarsh tells us. Diane Hadwen also confirms this to be Halifax Town Hall and Phil Booth confirms everyone's identification adding that this is Crossley Street in the Yorkshire town.

Oliver Denton captured a damp view of the street.

Near a church, broad road, leafy suburb but where?

Olly Denton tells exactly where, Haley Hill, Halifax HX3 by All Souls' Church and provides this shot showing just how much it has changed. (RL)

All Souls Church Boothtown, Halifax was used for the wedding. Really well sleuthed by Peter Priest, from a couple of scraps of trellis work behind someone's ear!

This was filmed at the bottom of Pepys Road, New Cross, London SE14, rather than Yorkshire. "I lived from 1987 to 1994 to the right of where the camera was set up, and the houses on the left are exactly the same today as in 1959." Excellent info from Jeremy Dickinson, thank you.

Nick Cooper confirms Pepys Road, New Cross, London SE14. The original lamp-post on the left has gone, and the lamp-post visible today appears to be roughly where the nearest of the two trees seen in the film are. The full trees obscure the turning into Musgrove Road on the left.

Pepys Road in New Cross SE14 again.

Just a comparison to confirm the location, showing how the style of the houses changes beyond Musgrove Road. Those before it have ground-floor bay windows, with the first floor flat-fronted with multiple narrow windows, as seen in the other photo. After Musgrove Road, the bays go all the way up to the first floor. This difference can just be made out in the film. From sharp eyed Nick Cooper
